Establishing Emergency Response Networks for Cultural Collections (Live Online)

This two-hour online class examines how to set up a local emergency response network that will help protect cultural collections when a disaster strikes.

Description:

This two-hour online class examines how to set up a local emergency response network that will help protect cultural collections when a disaster strikes.

As we have seen from the recent flooding in the Midwest and the lasting effects of major hurricanes, disasters can have a devastating impact on cultural collections. Response to such large-scale disasters can be difficult for the people on the ground and in nearby areas. Emergency response networks are one way that cultural organizations can pool resources and help each other in a disaster situation. Model networks have been tested in various states across the country and more are being formed.

This two-hour class will look at these established networks and consider the best way to get a network started in your area. Local, state, and regional opportunities will be discussed as well as topics such as: mutual aid agreements, caches of supplies, training, response teams, and working with first responders.
